The city is build on a large bas plate; slightly sloping towards the background. Meanwhile I learned to know and us MDF-plates. On a lath frame I decided to glue and screw 1/4 inch MDF-plates.
Because the surface is very extensive, a service hatch needed to be installed. This was mounted on a steel tubing frame. I used tubes designed for central heating systems.
The advantage of such a construction is that it's not to heavy. It can be lifted, anchored and then pivoted in either direction. This way the surroundings as well as the plate on the hatch itself is easily reachable, so building houses and roads on it won't be too hard to do.
