Fancy fair - The Catterpilar

Home-built, of course...

I might write something about this for Modelspoormagazine - so for now only pictures...

On my second mini-layout a fancy-fair in a middle-sized city is the main theme. This means a lot of home-building, as my overall project is situated at the end of the 50's. A catterpilar , with a closing cloth a the end of the ride allowing people to get a quick kiss or ... was a piece of scenery I definitely wanted to construct.

As I told this to some people at the model railroad club, I got a tip that an old-style catterpilar was to be built at a fancy-fair nearby. I went there during the day it was construction, and took lots of pictures. Some of them are shown here:




De eigenaar van de attractie twijfelde eraan of ik deze 12 meter brede rups op schaal 1/87 zou kunnen bouwen. Ik begrijp zijn twijfels. Hij had jammer genoeg geen bouwtekening, de grootvader van zijn vrouw had deze rups "uit het hoofd" gebouwd. Voor mezelf ging ik toch eerst wél dat plannetje uittekenen, met behulp van de talrijke foto's...
