Overview of the block security system

This system is based on the security system, used by the 'real' railroads: only one train can occupy a section of track. Trains have to wait to enter this section, and stop or slow down according to the signal they 'see'.

Every block in the drawing below represents a module, an electronic device, connected to other modules.

Explanation of the used modules:

Turnout position: converts the signals from the turnout controllers to 'understandable' signals for the block security system. This module doesn't really belong to the block system, but can be necessary in stations.
Man/Aut: een central switch on the control panel, switching the whole layout's automation level between manual, block system, semi-automatic or computer controlled.
Block secure: module sending signals to the 'track signal' module, deriving its information from the occupation detectors, turnout positions, next block information...
Detector: = occupation detector, signals if a track section is occupied by an engine, coach or freight car
Power: the output amplifier for the speed controllers
Speed: de speed controller, converting digital input signals to an analog (PPM) output voltage
Track signal: converts the block secure input to a suitable signal for the speed controller, depending on the position of the train within the track section.
Emergency button: This isn't a real part of the block system. This switch, mounted on different locations, stops all train traffic at once
